MAXISTAB DJ-1n Stabilizer For Perchloroethylene SVG Solvent

MAXISTAB™ DJ-1n stabilizer is a specially blended formulation of stabilizers for use with Perchloroethylene SVG. Perchloroethylene SVG solvent is a vapor degreasing grade of perchloroethylene. During use, vapor degreasing solvents are subjected to numerous environmental stresses which can lead to solvent breakdown and acidic conditions. Stabilizers are added to vapor degreasing grades of chlorinated solvents to neutralize acidic conditions and allow the solvent to continue to function properly. In low emission degreasing systems, stabilizers are depleted faster than they are replenished by the addition of fresh solvent. MAXISTAB DJ-1n stabilizer for Perchloroethylene SVG can be used to restabilize the solvent in these systems.

Acid Acceptance Adjustment for Perchloroethylene SVG Solvent

Using the information from the Acid Acceptance Test, and the volume of solvent in the degreaser system, find the appropriate amount of MAXISTAB DJ-1n to add to the system. (See Chart 1 below.)

MAXISTAB should be added to the solvent reservoir so that it is quickly mixed into the solvent and will be rapidly distributed throughout the system.

After making the addition, allow the solvent to mix throughout the system, then retest the acid acceptance levels. The optimal operating range for acid acceptance is between 0.10 and 0.30.

MAXISTAB DJ-1n stabilizer has been specially designed for acid acceptance adjustments of Perchloroethylene SVG.

Acid Acceptance Test Result Action Required Test Freequency Recommended
Acceptable Greater than .08 acid acceptance value Contiune normal operations Test 1 to 2 times per week
Marginal Acid Acceptance value between .04 and .08 Add MAXISTAB for acid acceptance Test daily until corrected
Unacceptable Less than .04 acid acceptance value Add MAXISTAB for acid acceptance or change out solvent Test daily until corrected

Chart 1. Acid Acceptance Adjustment

  • Determine the acid acceptance of the solvent using the Dow Acid Acceptance Test Kit.
  • Determine the volume of solvent in the degreaser system.
  • Using the volume from the graduated cylinder or the acid acceptance value, read the intersection of the line. Read either the gallons conversion factor located on the left of the chart or the milliliter conversion factor on the right of the chart. The conversion factor times the volume of solvent in the degreaser determines how much MAXISTAB DJ-1n stabilizer for Perchloroethylene SVG to add to the system.

  • For example, if you are operating a 125 gallon vapor degreaser and you obtain an acid acceptance test result of 9 ml (.05 acid acceptance value):

(Gallons of solvent in the degreaser system) X (Conversion Factor)
Volume reading of 9 ml or acid acceptance value of .05 =
.0065 gallon conversion factor (cf) or 25 ml conversion factor (cf)
    0.0065 (cf) X 125 gallons of solvent = .8125 gallons of MAXISTAB DJ-1n
    or, 25 (cf) X 125 gallons = 3125 ml or 3.125 liters of MAXISTAB DJ-1n•
